The Dark Mother be praised.
The sea witch is dead. The second time we battled her, we gave her the death, that she make something better of herself in the next life.
Though I am not convinced that she was making any better use of this life than the group I now travel with. I had thought that perhaps Kali had guided me to join with Azan so that I might find this group of people, blessed by the gods as they seem to be.
I cannot believe this is the group I am supposed to journey with. One man, the dwarf, was cursed with an evil spirit. The people, knowing their local gods and spirits, gave very clear instructions as to how to deal with it: he was to be killed, and resurrected afterwards if his god willed it. Yet this man, Flam, a paladin, knowing with all the force of his honor that the only certain way to cure himself of this evil spirit was to drown, refused to do it. Instead, he preferred the back-room machinations of their "druid," a word which I believe must mean "argumentative liar."
Even then, having a plan that was sold to us by someone we do not know and do not trust, choosing to undergo a course of action that was not that set by the servants of the gods, we dallied. The druid and this A. Hab person bickered for an hour, while Flam lingered on the docks, putting unknown numbers of people in danger.
In the end, we were forced to leave Hab on the docks and find a boat of gnomes, of all things. When gnomes prove more honorable than your own companions, something has gone horribly wrong.
And, of course, they have a friend among the gnomes.
Kali, give me patience, but if ever there was a group of individuals who needed another chance at life, and badly, this group is it. Yet I know that they are touched by the gods, and they are not mine to kill.
By which I must assume that this group of children is not at all where I am supposed to be. When even he that I have chosen as my master here commands me not to give death to a possessed dwarf, I must ask myself whether I might not find more useful employ elsewhere.
Kali, guide my feet.
Guide them away from here.
